The sinking of the Lusitania
On May 7, 1915 a British Ocean Liner carrying Americans was bound for Liverpool. The ship was torpedoed by German submarines. 1,198 people died out of 1,959, leaving 761 survivors in all. The sinking of the Lusitania pushed the United States towards war.
